STAY TUNED FOR A SUMMER RECAP COMING YOUR WAY AT THE END OF THIS BUSY SUNNY SEASON!

June 1, BIG Thank You! Hope Runs

A big THANK YOU to everyone who joined the Running Tourist on Sunday, May 31, for the 10km fun-run and Q&A with Hope Runs rep Natasha Peters!

Running Tourist is an amazingly fun and friendly concept! It gave me a great forum to meet other enthusiastic runners, especially those who were just as excited as I am about my casue, Hope Runs. The network that Heather and Running Tourist have set up helped me make new connections that will most definitely help with fundraising. However, the trip to Montreal was worth it just for the run along a beautiful route and great company from my fellow runners. Thanks Running Tourist! Natasha Peters

If you would like to learn more about Natasha Peter's involvement with Hope Runs, give her a hand in fundraising, or discover the Guinness World Record she is about to break(!), you can follow her at www.tasharuns.wordpress.com and/or contact her at tashas777@gmail.com

My encounter with Natasha, outside of our emails, was brief, just that Sunday, but I must say, her charisma, drive and contagious smile are gonna run a long way!

Good morning!
Get your index/mouse finger in its ready-aim-tap-like-you’ve-never-tapped-before position. Method to the madness: as of very early this passed Tuesday morning (the iRun team are early birds) a fantastic (not a biased opinion) blog was posted on the iRun magazine’s (www.irun.ca) online blogidol series. Blogidol? It’s brilliant, Grant and Vicky (iRun blogidol writers) are competing for highest number of daily hits on their individual blog postings. With that said, we’re gonna win. That’s right fellas, it’s you and RT! Tap, tap, away! Don’t bare the burden yourself, you have to think about your finger. Nope, send the link to your friends, family, and colleagues so they can help RT’s iRun blog tap it’s way into blogidol history – we’ll be a hit! (mwahahaha)

iRun link to be repeatedly hit: http://www.irun.ca/blog/index.php/tag/the-negative-splits/
Oh ya, and check out the blog/interview in between your hits!

Secondly, as you are aware, RT has its first non-profit fun-run coming up this weekend, Sunday May 31, for Hope Runs (www.hoperuns.org). Consider this your hump-day (Wednesday) heads-up. So, round up the crew for the 2pm, 10k fun-run, meet at the corner of Place Jacques Cartier and De la Commune (Montreal Old Port). Or, if Sunday is your crew’s rest day (as may be every other day of their week) have them meet us at the 3pm Q&A at the Liquid Nutrition (www.liquidnutrition.ca) location at 1617 rue St. Denis, Montreal, Qc.
Please note that you are not obligated nor expected to give a donation. If you are not in a position to donate, it is important to understand that your presence and support in the fun-run and/or Q&A builds your own knowledge of who and what Hope Runs is, which will in turn contribute to the power behind word of mouth.

Please RSVP, so that both the RT team and Liquid Nutrition can successfully accommodate you. If you do not plan on attending please forward this to someone you believe would be interested or benefit from learning about Hope Runs.

Well, well, well, what do we have here.  A Montreal spring.  Yes, when and where else can you wear North Face fleece mittens throughout the entire day and later arrive home with a rather disappointing tan outlining a pair of 3/4 length leggings...  Perfect, I no longer have need to put on my knee-high stockings.

On a lighter note (pun intended), RT has been running around with a few locals, those being Daniel Baylis, gay culture blog writer for Tourisme-Montreal, and Q92’s morning radio hosts Suzanne, Aaron and Tasso.  Oh yes, is was sweet!  You can check out Daniel’s review and Q92’s live interview on the RT website, just click in the speech bubble on the homepage.

As devoted lovers of Montreal and all it has to offer, RT is days away from embarking on their local, yes, I said local, running groups.

RT is more than confident to announce that it will help everyone get some weekly.  That’s right, runnin’!  ...what were you thinking?  Funny you mentioned/thought that, because Get’n Some Weekly with RT’s Rainbow Run  (open to gays and lesbians) or Run’around (open to all) can and will get you some, guaranteed.

Rainbow Run and Run’around local running groups begin the week of May 11/09.  Check out the RT website Run With Us link for more details.

If everyone believed in their own endurance and strength as much as Hope Run’s Claire A. Williams and Lara Vogel believe in themselves and those around them, quite a few things in this world would run a lot smoother.   Help RT raise funds for Hope Runs, www.hoperuns.org, on Sunday, May 31st, Montreal, Qc.  If you are not up to the event’s fun-run 10k (yes, it’s fun), then meet the crew at the finish point, Liquid Nutrition spot, for a Hope Runs Q&A with Natasha Peters.  For more info and the Liquid Nutrition Q&A address, go to the RT website’s Run With Us link and click on the Charity Run option.

In addition to running Montreal’s tourists through our picturesque city one small group at a time, we have decided to embark on the convention group.  Our team of almost overly enthusiastic runners who have smiles as long as their strides, are offering their spirits to convention group team building as to compliment RT’s scenic running routes.  For more information on convention group runs click on the RT website’s Run With Us link.

If you have any questions regarding the Running Tourist, contact Heather at info@runningtourist.ca or 514-293-2914.

April 5, RT Newsletter

Join us for a relaxed 5k run through the picturesque Montreal Old Port, break in your shoes and the RT team! Meet our running team, local runners, and visitors at 10 am on the corner of Place Jacques-Cartier and De la Commune, and get your sweat on! 5k for $5 or bring two friends and its free!

You can read more about the event on our facebook group “Running Tourist . Montreal” event page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=143792795310  Or for more information and/or to RSVP you can contact us at info@runningtourist.ca.

The Running Tourist team is itching to embark on the trails with Montreal’s visitors this coming spring and summer.  We were so excited that we decided to not only offer the weekend group runs but to also offer Monday to Friday privates runs, where you, the client, decide when and where you want to run.  Consult our website www.runningtourist.ca or your hotel concierge for more information!

We have spent the past few months not only introducing ourselves to the local hotels and online running community, but also building our running team.  The ease of finding runners in this city who are willing to share their daily run and conversation with Montreal visitors was not a difficult task, I suppose that warrants us Montrealers a warm pat on the back, but I must admit that RT picked the cream of the running crop!  Allow me to introduce the RT team:

Gary Rush
Gary first ran in 1980 inspired by Terry Fox and completed his first marathon at age 15 in 1981. Hundreds of races later, in the USA/Canada and Europe with events as varied as summer biathlon, snowshoeing, and team relays, Gary has also worked with many international marathons, and events, and locally for charity runs. As a volunteer, organizer, or with promotions and marketing-he has always tried to promote physical activity to youth- or in his career as a professional photographer covering many events (sporting or otherwise) since 1986.

Heather Beauchesne
Originally from Saskatchewan, Heather is an avid runner, who enjoys the pavement more than the treadmill… who actually will not run on a treadmill - for Heather there is something about being outside that an oversized gym window cannot simulate.  She is more than eager to share the beautiful streets of Montreal with a visitor to the city, whether it be 5:45 am or 7 pm.  Heather has participated in 10k events in the past, but will be experiencing her first 22k this April, 2009.

Leighton James
Leighton is a Montreal native, and running enthusiast.  When he is not being active, he enjoys spending his time cooking, or sifting and searching for every piece of information related to his interests, one of which is herbal remedy.  At night you can find him spinning tunes somewhere in the heart of Montreal.

Peter Stockland
Peter is a former editor-in-chief of The Gazette newspaper in Montreal and runs with the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association running team.  He has run marathons in Paris, Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. and will run his qualifier for the Boston marathon this fall in Victoria.

Phil Gauvin
With over 10 years of experience racing mountain and road bicycle as well as duathlon and triathlon, Phil has proven himself as an endurance athlete. He's been a part of Laval Université Rouge et Or and a few other teams, including a pro ice canoe team in Quebec City.  He is now focusing on multi-sport raids and half-marathons and looking forward to sharing his runs in Montreal with fellow runners.

Steve Charters
A New Brunswick transplant to Montreal, Steve participates in a whole range of sports, including cycling, skiing, and yoga, but running remains his primary love.  Indeed, while working with Running Tourist, Steve is also busy preparing for the summer running season, and will be running the Ottawa Marathon in May, as well as the Philadelphia Marathon in Fall 2009.   Steve is an avid explorer of Montreal's most unique and interesting sites and events, and has great insight into the neighborhoods, nightlife and cultural diversity that makes the city so vibrant.  Steve also attained a Masters degree in History from McGill in 2006 and will be happy to share some historical insights about Montreal along the route.  Outside of running, Steve works in the non-profit sector and is developing his skills as a website developer.
The spring his here, the rain is here – but to other’s wonderment, we runners love it!
